PREPPING YOUR
APARTMENT FOR A FREEZE
PRECAUTIONS
As many of you know, once the temperature goes below freezing, the danger of pipes freezing increases. Help avoid the serious damage caused by frozen pipes bursting by taking the following preventative measures:
Leave indoor faucets on a slow drip
A slow drip will be sufficient! A steady stream of water is not needed and can be costly. A drip will keep enough circulation to everyone's apartment to keep the pipes from freezing.
Open cabinet doors under sinks
Help circulate warm air around your water lines by keeping your cabinet doors open
Keep your heat above 65 degrees
If you are going out of town, please leave the apartment warmer than the freezing temperature outside to avoid frozen pipes
Watch for ice on stairs and walkways
Even if you do not see the ice, it may still be present. Stay inside when possible
Keep all pets inside
